Cipro is normally used to treat bacterial infections in strep throat, urinary tract, and [...]]]> The makers of the antibiotic Cipro on Tuesday asked by The Food and Drug Administration to add a “black box warning” to their all products, seeing the risks of tendon ruptures and tendonitis. The injury could also leave patients incapacitated.

According to Health officials patients should immediately stop taking the medicines if they develop any tendon pain, swelling, or inflammation.

Cipro is normally used to treat bacterial infections in strep throat, urinary tract, and in case of skin infections. It is also used to treat anthrax.

Officials say although the side effects are not common but the risk increases in people over 60 and those taking corticosteroids. People with kidney, heart, or lung transplant also have an increased risk.

The Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo gave Rite Aid pharmacies and CVS two weeks before carrying out a follow-up investigation. However the Attorney General found that the pharmacy companies continued to sell and stock outdated products including eggs and baby formula, children’s medicine. Several of these products were found expired more than a year past their expiration dates.

The pharmacy drug stores had promised to remove the product, following a June 12 letter sent by the Attorney General.

Around 24 CVS stores were checked by [...]]]> Two popular drug stores will be sued by the state attorney general for selling expired drugs and food products.

The Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo gave Rite Aid pharmacies and CVS two weeks before carrying out a follow-up investigation. However the Attorney General found that the pharmacy companies continued to sell and stock outdated products including eggs and baby formula, children’s medicine. Several of these products were found expired more than a year past their expiration dates.

The pharmacy drug stores had promised to remove the product, following a June 12 letter sent by the Attorney General.

Around 24 CVS stores were checked by investigators and half of them were found selling expired products. So did eight of the 20 Rite Aid stores.

However, customers were worried about these findings.

A Rite Aid spokesperson has issued a statement saying, “The findings are unacceptable and we will immediately retain those stores on our procedures.”

Meanwhile, CVS spokesperson said “Our policy is to remove items before they go beyond the expiration date.”

However the Attorney General’s investigation team found several expired goods which were stocked on the shelves at following locations of CVS stores :-

• 275 Third Avenue in Manhattan
• 156 Henry Street in Brooklyn
• 97-10 63rd Road in Rego Park, Queens
• 249 First Avenue in Manhattan
• 307 Sixth Avenue in Manhattan
• 500 Grand Street in Manhattan
• 118-10 Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills, Queens

Also several expired Rite Aid products were found at following locations :-

• 77-81 First Avenue in Manhattan
• 188 Ninth Avenue in Manhattan
• 300 West 20th St in Manhattan
• 516 East 14th Street in Manhattan
• 7 Madison Street in Manhattan
• 87-89 Avenue D in Manhattan
• 534 Hudston Street in Manhattan
