A serial rapist was sentenced to 75 years in jail by the Manhattan Supreme Court Judge. The accused verbally abused the judge and unleashed a string of obscenities at his own lawyer.
The accused Rovell Washington, 56, got convicted last month. He had raped and sexually assaulted two prostitutes and a female security guard in 2002. Two of the victims were raped after the accused held them with a knife, and threatened to throw the third victim from a 13-story building.

Thirteen people were arrested yesterday morning for false insurance claims in fake car accidents.
The police reported that the insurance scam head would stage a fake car accident after packing his cohorts in two sets of cars and then stage a minor accident. The supposed “victims” would then seek medical attention for illusive maladies from Bronx clients. The clinics’ employees would bill car insurance companies for bogus billings and treatments.
Police said that ringleader was paid between $1,500 and $2,500 for each fake accident by the clinic where the assumed “victims” were sent for treatment. In turn, the victims [...]

An international manhunt is on for a hulking Serbian athlete who viciously beat a Brooklyn college student and fled the country - possibly with his government’s help, authorities said.
Federal agents have initiated international manhunt for a hulking Serbian athlete Miladin Kovacevic 20, who viciously beat a Brooklyn college student and fled the U.S.
A Serbian official is believed to have bailed him out for $100,000, and used an emergency passport to help him leave the country. This incident has prompted the State Department to issue a separate probe.

Two popular drug stores will be sued by the state attorney general for selling expired drugs and food products.
The Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo gave Rite Aid pharmacies and CVS two weeks before carrying out a follow-up investigation. However the Attorney General found that the pharmacy companies continued to sell and stock outdated products including eggs and baby formula, children’s medicine. Several of these products were found expired more than a year past their expiration dates.
The pharmacy drug stores had promised to remove the product, following a June 12 letter sent by the Attorney General.

A man who was accused of torturing and raping a Columbia University graduate student was found guilty of 44 of 46 counts.
The accused named Robert Williams, was found guilty of kidnapping, burglary and arson charges. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. However, Williams was not found guilty of first-degree assault on two charges.
When judge sentenced the verdict to Williams, he turned over in his cell and went back to sleep.
However William’s lawyer, Arnold Levine said that his client is unfit, and is not competent to stand trail.

Police is searching for a man who stabbed a 37-year-old woman in Queens. The victim was walking along with her teenage daughter when she was attacked on June 22.
Investigators told that attack happened just before 10 a.m. on Sunday morning at the intersection of 22nd Street Long Island City and Queens Plaza North.
Investigators reported that the woman was walking with her 13-year-old daughter when a man rode up on a bicycle, and stabbed her in the chest, and then took off.

The U.S Supreme Court today rejected tenants and property owner’s appeal which are facing eviction to make room for the development of Atlantic Yards.
The group named Develop Don’t Destroy Brooklyn had strived to stop the development of skyscrapers and new arena for the Nets from moving forward. The group was opposing to the use of eminent domain, terming it as unconstitutional.
They say the government has violated rules by taking the property because the project is geared towards benefit of developers rather than public. However, the justice attorneys rejected their appeal.

Attorneys are expected to wrap up their legal cases today in the trial of Robert Williams who was charged with torturing and raping a graduate student from Columbia University, New York.
William was slapped with 71 counts including kidnapping, burglary, arson and sexual assault. Prosecutors told that he repeatedly sodomized and raped the 24-year old graduate student during a 19 hour ordeal in April, 2007.
Williams did not attend court on the first day when victim testified, and refused to appear before court after the lunch break on the second day.
He will face life imprisonment if convicted.

One person got killed and 3 were injured in a bus accident near Chinatown, New York. The Fung Wah bus jumped a curb and hit a bank this morning.
This accident took place just before 8 this morning at the intersection of the Canal Street and Bowery. One person was taken to a local hospital who had suffered serious injuries.
Some published reports say that a stationed dump truck rear-ended the Fung Wah bus, thus forcing it into the bank.
